Sydney Bennett is back! And her pursuit of perfection is alive and well. Naïve to the core, Sydney believed that when she finally married the man of her dreams, the hard part was over. Following a civil ceremony as a means to keep Louis from being deported, Sydney continues to plan the fairytale wedding that she had dreamed of since the age of five. Much to her chagrin, she discovers that her mother-in-law is planning what seems to be a rival wedding in France that SHE has been dreaming about for her only child since before he was born. How will poor Sydney be able to ensure two perfect weddings in the midst of Louis’ fruitless job search? Especially when her mother-in-law’s idea of perfection appears to be having Sydney embarrass herself in front of hundreds of French people that she has never met?
As if she didn’t have enough on her mind already, Sydney finds herself faced with the trials and tribulations of being a wife. Sydney had always heard that marriage was hard, but she thought that this was just a ruse that married couples portrayed in a bid to make single girls feel less desperate. But as the bills pile up and emotions run high, she realizes that there may just be some truth to this statement. And as she watches Louis’ perfection fade away before her very eyes, she begins to wonder if she made a rash decision in marrying a man that she had known for a mere six months.
With all of the obstacles that Sydney and Louis will encounter, will they be raising their glasses in celebration or watching their impulsive marriage crash and burn? One thing is for certain, Sydney and Louis Durand are headed for one hell of a toast…

French Toast The French Twist Series Book 2 eBook Glynis Astie

This was a terrific sequel to "French Twist" and I enjoyed it a great deal. Much of it was laugh-out-loud funny, and her characters were appealing and convincing as were her situations. Her books reminded me a lot of Laura Florand's "Blame It on Paris," which is a classic of its genre - same handsome French guy and same multiple weddings, plus she too writes in a very humorous style. I look forward to Astie's continued adventures since a third volume is promised.

The only problem I had with the books, which stopped me from awarding a fifth star, was her frequent failure to use contractions where appropriate. The whole book is written in a breezy and informal style, so when Astie writes "He is a great kid and your mother and I are so happy that you have found each other." instead of "He's a great kid and your mother and I are so happy that you've found each other." or "He feels that it is his responsibility...." instead of "He feels that it's his responsibility...." it pulls the reader up short and makes the dialogue sound stilted and unreal. The books would feel so much more natural with that issue remedied!

French Toast The French Twist Series Book 2 eBook Glynis Astie Reviews

I didn't read the first book and was glad this was a stand alone. I want to read the first one, though now! The main character is so easy to love as well as her family. I fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I completely related to Sydney. A really fun read.
This is a humorous, enjoyable read. You cannot imagine what challenges might come next, for Syd. It is warm and homey to read of family interactions and the expectations of sabotage and pranks rearing up from the past. The characters are lovable, with the occasional dash of eccentric!
The French twist series... loved both books, hoping there will additional books in the series... would love too hear more about Sydney & Louis.... also would be nice to see what happens with Maya... and the other characters in the book...

I enjoyed the quirky writing style of the author... (and I mean quirky in a good way) 😊
I was so excited to hear that the second book of the Sydney Bennett series is finally out! I love reading about her French fairytale and how it may not be all it's cracked up to be - but trying to embrace all the good stuff. Sydney is a nut (in a good way) and her adventures are fun to read. Highly recommend!
The second book in the series by Glynis Astie. French Toast is an amazing follow up to French Twist. Sydney is at her all time best, giving us a look at how love prevails.......through the planning of her weddings. (Yes the suspense) She is truly a hero we all can look too! Her writing style has once again drawn me in.......Again! cant wait for French Fry!
This book is a continuation of the crazy Sydney we met in the first book. She continues to regal us with her crazy family, friends, the love of her life, Louie, and her joyous crazy spirit which makes her uniquely her. I can't wait to read of her in her next book. I have enjoyed meeting her new family, her loyal, trustworthy friends, and the ever ready love and support of her immediate family. She takes you on an adventure that makes you feel included like you're observing in the wings. Great read!
I liked this book better than the first (which is thoroughly enjoyed). The continuation of the story of Sydney and Louis and their weddings. Their relationship is tested and becomes even stronger - at least Sydney becomes less neurotic by the end of the book - which is a good thing. I did miss learning more about Louis, even though he is a main character, it would have been nice to learn more about him and how he grew through the first year of marriage. That being said, the story kept my interest, made me laugh and i couldn't put it down. It is a fun read and I'm happy the story continues and will definitely read the next book in the series.
